Frequently Asked Questions about Awesome Ball

Q: Where is the hoop?
A: Awesome Ball isn't really a game (at least not right now). It is better classified as a toy. Awesome Ball's strengths are in its customizability. Have fun trying out the different built-in ball types (see the next question) and then make your own with "Custom Ball" option! It is actually quite fun to put someone's face on the ball and bounce them around!

Q: How do I change the type of ball?
A: Double-tap the screen to get to the Settings screen and press the "Select Ball!" button to choose one of the preset balls. For even more fun, choose "Custom Ball" from the list and create your own!

Q: How do I use images from the internet to put on my ball and walls?
A: You can download images that you find on the internet using Safari and save them to your "Saved Photos" album. Just follow these steps:

  1. Find the image you want on the web
  2. Put one finger on the image and hold it until a message box appears.
  3. One of your options will be to save the photo. Select that option.
  4. Next time you open Awesome Ball, you can choose that image from your "Saved Photos" or "Camera Roll" album.
Now you have virtually unlimited options for customizing Awesome Ball to your liking!

Q: Can I zoom in and out?
A: Yes! You can use pinch gestures (slide two fingers together and apart) to zoom in and out.

Q: Everything moves too much and makes me queasy!
A: Um...that's not really a question, but we do have an answer: On the Settings screen, find the "Camera Follows Ball" option and flip the switch to "OFF." Now the camera will stay in a fixed position.

Q: Why isn't there any background music?
A: You're running Awesome Ball on an iPhone/iPod, right? I bet you have some great background music on there! Just follow these steps before starting Awesome Ball:

  1. Go to the iPod/Music app.
  2. Start up a playlist with some of your favorite tunes.
  3. Without stopping the music, exit the Music app by clicking the home button.
  4. Start up Awesome Ball.
  5. Your own music is now Awesome Ball's background music!.
You can even double-click the home button while Awesome Ball is running to bring up a music controller to pause, skip a track, or change the volume!

Q: What is an "easter egg?"
A: An easter egg is a hidden feature in a piece of software or other media (like a DVD). How to activate the easter egg is not documented to let the user have fun finding it.

Q: So how do I activate the easter eggs in Awesome Ball?
A: Well, if we told you, it would then be documented and not much of an easter egg, wouldn't it? (see previous question)

Q: A hint, maybe?
A: Oh, alright. Have you watched our YouTube videos yet? Yes? Have you watched the entire video?? (patience is a virtue!). If you're impatient and/or aren't interested in the challenge, you can go directly to the spoilers page for the answers.

Q: Can I reset the bounce count?
A: Yes. You can reset the bounce count by double-tapping on the count in the Settings screen. You will be asked for confirmation before the count is actually reset.

Q: Can I take a screen shot of my custom ball and walls?
A: Yes, though we can't take credit for this feature. You can take a screen shot of anything on your iPhone/iPod touch at any time by pressing the sleep button and home button simultaneously and releasing them. The screen will flash white and an image of your screen will be saved to your "saved photos" or "camera roll" album.

Q: What is the difference between the original "Awesome Ball" and "Awesome Ball Plus"?
A: Awesome Ball Plus is the premium version of Awesome Ball. Awesome Ball Plus lets you choose the bounce sound for the custom ball and even lets you record your own bounce sound!

Q: Who made Awesome Ball?
A: Awesome Ball was created by Jonathan Johnson and Brian Pratt, just a couple of college students looking to have some fun.

Q: How do the 3D graphics and physics in Awesome Ball work?
A: Awesome Ball makes use of the OpenGL graphics library for the cool graphics and textures. It uses the open source ODE physics engine for its realistic physics. ODE is licensed under the BSD license.
